Postdoctoral Research Scholar

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Neurology is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Post-Doctoral Research Scholar in the laboratory of Qiang (Johnson) Zhang, MD. This position will provide scientific and technical leadership in the management, design, and conduct of research in the Center for Neurodegeneration.

Duties may include:

Independently performing experiments and research with mice

Collecting and analyzing data

Writing manuscripts

Writing training grants/career development grants ~ as a federally funded physician-scientist previously supported by NIH training grants, Dr. Zhang is highly committed to the career development of his trainees.

Assisting/preparing data for grant applications Supervising students/research assistants

The Zhang Lab is focused on how glycolysis and bioenergetics are involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease and its related dementias (ADRD) including Parkinson’s disease dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies.

This position will also collaborate extensively with Dr. Nandakumar Narayanan in Neurology and Dr. Michael Welsh in Internal Medicine.

Please note: This position is for a limited duration, starting at 12 months, and not to exceed five (5) years unless there are unusual circumstances.

Education Requirement:

PhD, MD, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications:

Proficiency in MATLAB or R.

Track record of peer-reviewed scientific publications, including at least one first-author publication, in neuroscience

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience with behavioral assays in rodent transgenic models.

Experience with fiber photometry.

Experience with histology/immunohistochemistry/ELISA/Western blot.

Experience with neuronal ensemble recordings. Experience with optogenetics.

Experience with rodent MR spectroscopy imaging. E

xperience with rodent PET imaging.

Experience with transcriptomics.
