Research Fellow - Public Health Data Centre for Health Services Studies Location: Canterbury

The Centre for Health Services Studies is seeking to appoint an experienced researcher with substantial experience in developing research protocols and analysing routine datasets for academic epidemiological research.

This is a new position which will be critical to the future development of applied health and public health research in Kent and Medway.

The successful candidate will be required to gain a sophisticated understanding of routine datasets and the applied health research context in Kent and Medway and communicate effectively with stakeholders. As well as having excellent quantitative research skills, experience of working with large linked datasets and knowledge of research governance, you must be highly self-motivated, organised and have considerable tact and interpersonal skills.

We are offering this role on a fixed-term basis for 24 months.

As a Research Fellow, you will:

deliver systems for access arrangements to routine datasets for research

develop public health research projects using datasets

promote research culture and capacity particularly within local government

coordinate activities to ensure that systems to facilitate researchers' access to health and linked datasets are in place, working with the Kent and Medway Integrated Care System Shared Health and Care Analytics Board

To succeed in this role you will have:

A PhD in a related area of quantitative applied health research

Substantial experience in analysing routine datasets for academic epidemiological research

Experience of developing research protocols

Excellent knowledge of epidemiology

Good knowledge of the Health Research Authority and research governance frameworks including legal and ethical requirements

Knowledge of research funding processes (university and/or other funders)

Knowledge and experience of patient, public or community engagement and participation in research
