Postdoc in Electrochemical Engineering
Technical University of Denmark
Description
If you are ready to take the next step in your academic career and break new ground where materials science meets electrochemistry and sustainable energy technologies, DTU Energy invites you to submit an application for a fully funded 2-year Postdoc position.
The position is based in the Section of Organic Electrochemical Materials, and the postdoc project is tied to a recently started European project (ECO2Fuel) that gathers 14 universities, research institutions and companies across Europe with the ambition to develop a 1 MW unit for electrochemical synthesis of CO2-derived liquid fuels.
Responsibilities and qualifications Your work will be devoted to characterization of polymer electrolyte membranes under conditions relevant for electrochemical CO2 reduction. The work ranges from fabrication, optimization and testing of membrane-electrode assemblies to detailed analysis of cross-membrane transport phenomena of ions and molecules. Specific tasks include conductivity studies, determination of transference numbers of individual ions, quantification of alcohol cross-over, and exploration of carbonation/decarbonation mechanisms within the different components.
We expect you to contribute to reaching the ambitious goals of the sub- projects that you will be involved in, by working proactively in collaboration with your colleagues and by sharing materials, knowledge and ideas. More specifically, your responsibilities and tasks consist of:
Development and optimization of membrane-electrode assemblies
Electrochemical characterization
Analysis and quantification of complex gas/liquid mixtures
Construction and modification of test infrastructure
Daily supervision of BSc/MSc/PhD students
Contribution to idea generation and project proposals
Dissemination and communication
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). The degree should be in the field of electrochemical engineering or similar. The candidate is expected to start as soon as possible.
We prefer applicants with a genuine interest in applied research combined with:
Practical and theoretical skills in materials processing and formulation
Practical and theoretical skills in electrochemistry and electrochemical characterization methods
Practical and theoretical skills in analytical chemistry, preferably gas/liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry
Practical skills in construction and modification of test infrastructure and instrumentation
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment in complex projects
Excellent writing and communication skills in English
Assessment The assessment of the applicants will be made by Professor Qingfeng Li, Senior Researcher David Aili, and Associate Professor Lars Nilausen Cleemann.
We offer DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.
Salary and terms of employment The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The period of employment is 2 years.
