Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
Job Description
The Helmholtz Zentrum München in Munich, Germany, is member of one of the leading research associations in Europe - the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. The aim of our research is to proactively detect health risks involving humans and the environment, decoding the mechanisms of pathogenesis and developing concepts for prevention and therapy.
The Institute of Experimental Genetics is looking for a Postdoctoral scientist (m/f) in a research project to phenotypically and epigenetically analyse the effects of parentally acquired diabetes on the progeny in an animal model 2014/2453
Job Description
A major goal in this project within the framework of the French-German Diabetes Academy is to begin to dissect
the contribution of epigenetic inheritance versus the effect of the maternal environment to the predisposition of deve-loping a diabetic phenotype in the offspring.
• Use of an established mouse model for acquired diabetes
• Phenotypic analyses of progeny from diabetic mothers, in particular, with
regards to classical diabetes parameters
• Molecular analyses (including metabolomics, proteomics and
transcriptomics)
of selected organs
• Analyses of maternal effects on the epigenome of the progeny (DNA
methylation, histone modifications and chromatin accessibility)
Your Qualifications
• Candidates are highly motivated scientists with a degree in biology,
molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or in a similar faculty and
have an excellent doctorate
• Previous knowledge in molecular and/or genetic methods, in particular in
next generation sequencing, in metabolic disorders, as well as experience
or interest in working with mouse models will be to your advantage
• Above-average commitment and the ability to work in a team, as well as
analytic thinking, independent working, very good computer skills,
knowledge of statistical methods and excellent knowledge of written and
spoken English are necessary prerequisites
Our Offer
• Working in an innovative, well- equipped and scientifi-cally stimulating
surrounding
• Perform research in an internationally leading and highly attractive
academic environment
• Perform independent research in an interdisciplinary team with exceptional
facilities for phenotyping, muta-genesis, transcriptomics, proteomics and
metabolomics and within international cooperations.
• Further training opportunities
• Initial short-term employment contract for two years with a standard public
service salary (TV EntgO Bund EG 13)
