We are seeking a highly motivated PhD and/or MD graduate to work in the Cardiovascular research lab in the Tulane University Department of Medicine (New Orleans). The successful candidate will join a NIH-funded project to investigate the role of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-1) in atherosclerosis in mice and in a large (porcine) animal model. The project studies the relation between IGF-1, cell senescence and atherosclerotic disease and will use a loss-of-function murine model, atherosclerotic pigs and explore mechanisms using in vitro studies. The experience in basic molecular biology and in handling rodents are highly desirable. Basic knowledge of vascular biology and recent lab experience are required. The job involves designing and conducting research projects, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, presenting at national/international conferences, and writing manuscripts. The Pl and research team will closely work with the successful candidate for training in all these aspects, and the candidate will be encouraged to apply for independent postdoctoral fellowship grants.
Qualifications:
1. PhD, MD, or equivalent degree with a basic background in vascular biology.
2. Basic research lab experience in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and animal physiology.
Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment. For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation, required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.
