Postdoctoral Research Assistant in cancer research

As part of a Cancer Research UK-funded programme of work, we are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Mitotic Progression group headed by Prof Ulrike Gruneberg. The Gruneberg lab studies the mechanisms safeguarding genome stability during cell division in mammalian cells in the context of cancer.

The post-holder will be responsible for managing their own academic research and administrative activities. You will conduct an analysis of cell cycle progression and chromosome segregation in mammalian tissue culture cells with different ploidies. The ultimate goal of the project is to identify perturbations of chromosome segregation which are particularly damaging to tumour cells. The work will involve a combination of cutting edge fixed and live cell imaging as well as biochemical methods. Applicants are expected to be highly motivated, organised and reliable, and to be able to work independently as well as in a team.

Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology, have a demonstrable interest or experience in the cell cycle or chromosome biology field, and will have a competitive publication record (taking career stage into account). Proven experience in molecular biology, live cell imaging and imaging analysis, as well as demonstrable experience with the genetic manipulation of mammalian cells and the generation of stable cell lines are essential criteria for the post. The post holder should have excellent organisational and communication skills, and be able to present their results in research meetings. Experience with FACS sorting and FACS analysis are desirable.

This full-time post is funded by Cancer Research UK for three years in the first instance.
