A postdoc position is available in the Munir's Molecular Virology lab in the Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences Lancaster University, UK. This industry-funded 2 year project requires a virologist to play a critical role in understanding antiviral properties of different coatings in personnel protective equipment.

The Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences, within the Faculty of Health and Medicine, is a rapidly growing, innovative and vibrant Division whose research effort is directed towards understanding basic cellular and physiological mechanisms that underpin disease states. Research areas in the division include, but are not limited to, infectious diseases, parasitology, virology, immunology, neurodegeneration, mental health, ageing and cancer biology.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual able to implement our plan of work and explore new avenues as they arise. This position will involve working on molecular virological techniques including quantification and characterization of viruses, understanding mechanism of viral inhibition by different antiviral compounds. A strong background in molecular virology is essential, and experience in working in high containment facilities would be an advantage. You will employ state of the art imaging, tissue culture methods and virus infection models to explore the impact of different biomolecules for their virucidal activities.

The Munir laboratory investigates advanced molecular detection and novel vaccines against viruses of public health and zoonotic importance.

You will join us on an indefinite contract however, the role remains contingent on external funding which, at this time is for 24 months.
