This postdoctoral position is situated at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, within ”The Clinical brain tumor research group”. The work will be in the interface between clinical research and analyses of medical images.

Subject area description

Clinical brain tumor research sheds light on various issues concerning the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with brain tumors. The purpose of the research is to improve treatment options and prognosis for patients while maintaining or improving quality of life.

Job assignments

Within the research group we have had focus on research in the interface of clinical data and radiological exams. In this postdoctoral position it is expected to do research projects that includes both. It is likely that this also includes collaborative research together with one or more partners in of our research network. The work itself will focus on imaging analysis, with special emphasis on brain MRI. We intend to apply atlas-based methods linking patient specific imaging data, neuroscience and rich clinical data.

It is expected that the postdoctor will run own project within the research group, but also contribute in other projects and in the supervision of students. Since the postdoctor is expected to collaborate in several projects, and with external partners, there will be some administrative tasks concerning data management and GDPR.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.

To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made.

In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.

To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher for this position the applicant should hold a PhD in medical sciences or in applied medical technology.

Assessment

Even though we target junior researchers, the current position has a high demand on research independence. Therefore, it is a merit if the applicant has documented research activity after the PhD, and preferably in topics unrelated to the PhD. It is also a merit with considerable experience in medical image analyses, and especially with experience with analyses of brain MRIs.

A requirement for the employment is that the applicant is fluent in the Swedish language because the data collection is in Swedish and to enable communication with patients.

The applicant should be structured and have the ability to take initiative, be able to work independently and at the same time be a team player. Great emphasis will be placed in personal suitability.

Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) for 2 years, 100% of full-time, and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date: as soon as possible or as agreed.
