The new Institute, established by two world-leading universities, Zhejiang University and University of Edinburgh, is focused on international Biomedical Sciences/Bioinformatics/Biomedical Informatics/Biomedical Engineer research collaboration.

Research interests: The Leptihn Group offers two Postdoctoral Fellowships; one project focusses on the investigation of membrane proteins controlling cellular signalling pathways employing microfluidics and single molecule methods (fluorescence, electrophysiology) together with the University of Edinburgh and the ZJUI (Zhejiang University-University of Illinois Urbana Champagne). The second project involves viruses of microbes (bacteriophages) with aspects on both, function and structure of phage proteins, as well as phage therapy. Research interests: The centrosome is an important signalling and microtubule organizing centre in mammalian cells. Centrosomal defects are a common in high grade cancer and have been shown to trigger tumorigenesis in mice. The impact of centrosomal defects in deregulating the cell cycle in cancer is poorly understood. In addition, cancer genome sequencing efforts worldwide show mutations on centrosomal components are common. Using genetic, cell biology and biochemical assays, we aim to study how the changes in centrosomal signalling lead to the deregulation of the cell cycle in cancer.
