George Washington University

Description

Posting Details

Job Description Summary:

The Center for Community Resilience at the George Washington University is hiring a postdoctoral scientist for Evaluation. The two-year appointment is a collaboration between GWU's Center for Community Resilience (50%) and the Early Childhood Innovation Network (50%).

This position is primarily a temporary/training position in which the incumbent plays a substantive role in planning and conducting research by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, this role will participate in the planning of independent research, will analyze and interpret data, will publish results, will represent the university at conferences and meetings, and may develop new theories and methodologies. This position may also help the Principal Investigator to lead and direct the work of lower level research staff. This role performs work under the supervision of experienced researchers.

The Center for Community Resilience (CCR) at the Milken Institute School of Public Health, part of the George Washington University, seeks to improve the health of communities by enabling cross-sectoral partners to align policy, program and practice to address adverse childhood experiences in the context of adverse community environments-the Pair of ACEs. Our innovative framing of ACEs, with the explicit focus on equity and prevention, has influenced local initiatives, programs, public health practice and local, state and federal policy. Over the past five years, our networks have successfully led systems and policy change focused on addressing long-standing economic, social and health disparities by partnering with community, integrating service delivery and building political will for change.

Today, our partners are responding to the global COVID-19 pandemic that threatens the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve. The pandemic has put on full display measurable inequities along the nation's most fragile fault lines-race, immigration and poverty. The groundbreaking work of CCR has been pivotal in influencing public health and child health advocates to center equity in their efforts to address trauma and building community resilience.

The Early Childhood Innovation Network (ECIN) is a local collaborative of health and education providers, community-based organizations, researchers, and advocates promoting resilience in families and children from pregnancy through age five in Washington, DC.

The Evaluation Postdoctoral Fellowship The fellowship provides opportunities to participate in ongoing research, develop self-directed data projects, conduct mixed-methods program evaluation, and lead manuscript publication for various programs. Specifically, the postdoctoral fellow will: Lead and support program evaluation for CCR programs, including but not limited to: Lead the ongoing evaluation for the Building Community Resilience ( BCR) national collaborative and network of grassroots coalitions. Develop the methodology and lead the evaluation research for the Resilience Catalysts in Public Health (RC) national collaborative of local health departments. Lead the scientific writing for CCR evaluation research. Support program evaluation for ECIN programs. Collaborate with members of the ECIN team to disseminate findings through writing peer-reviewed articles, refereed conference presentations and community forums. Contribute to and oversees the development of translational products to convey complex findings into content that consumers and stakeholders can understand.
