          IBS Center for Cognition and Sociality: Cognitive Glioscience Group

          The Institute for Basic Science (IBS) is Korea’s first government-funded basic science research institute established under Article 14 of the Special Act on Establishment of and Support for International Science and Business Belt. IBS aims to discover creative knowledge and technologies through world-class basic science research.

          The IBS Center for Cognition and Sociality (CCS) is recruiting creative and outstanding postdoctoral research associates for innovative brain research. The CCS focuses on unraveling the mechanisms of brain function on cognition and sociality through research at various levels encompassing molecules, cells, and organisms, identifying causes of neurological disorders, and developing novel treatments.

          This recruitment includes a variety of research topics – 1) study on the role of astrocytes in various brain functions, 2) study on the mechanisms of mental disorders such as depression and autism, 3) study on the effects of glycosylation on brain function, 4) development of synthetic molecules for modulation of brain function, 5) study on underlying mechanisms of cognition and social memory processing, 6) study on genetic and synaptic mechanisms of empathy behaviors.

          We are looking for creative and innovative postdoctoral research associates to achieve our goals together.

          Position Overview

          Postdoctoral Research Associate: A position for research training as well as research participation at the same time, for those who obtained their PhD degrees within the latest 5 years, or are expected to obtain within 3 months from the appointment start dates. The employment term is within maximum three years (e.g., 1+2 or 2+1 years). The employment contract sustains only until the date when the Center exists.

          Qualifications and Preferences

          General qualifications

          -Those who are qualified as defined in Article 33 of the State Public Officials Act and IBS regulations.

          -Those who completed mandatory military service or are exempt from such service, and are permitted to travel abroad.

          Preferences

          -Additional points for persons with disabilities as defined in Articles 3 and 4 of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Employment Promotion and Vocational Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, or persons eligible for employment assistance as defined in Article 29 of the Act on the Honorable Treatment of and Support for Persons, Etc. of Distinguished Service to the State.

          Details:Expertise in the recruitment area, presentation skill, attitude, problem solving skills, development potential, fluency in foreign languages(English), etc.

          Criteria:Select the final candidate(s) with the highest average scores within the number of openings (minimum average score: 80).

          -The interview screening can be conducted as a video (online) conference.

          -Preliminary successful candidates can be selected within the range of twice the number of openings, and if the final successful candidate cannot be appointed due to abandonment of appointment or reasons for disqualification, the appointment may be made according to the preliminary ranking.
